Professional Support Services to Primary and Secondary Schools Admitting Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students to Enhance the Professional Capacity of Teachers for Helping NCS Students Learn Chinese (Ref: EDB(SBPS)/NCS/1/5)

The project aims to

(a) gear up the professional capacity of schools in helping their NCS students team Chinese;

(b) enhance the Chinese language proficiency of NCS students in schools under support and strengthen their foundation for further study of Chinese at secondary levels;

(c) provide an impetus for sustaining the momentum of development in schools admitting NCS students through disseminating the valuable practices and experiences generated;

(d) develop system knowledge about how to help NCS students learn Chinese and facilitate their smooth transition from primary to secondary education effectively in Hong Kong.

The E&T Project provides professional research-based school support for 16 primary schools and 8 secondary schools annually on developing school-based Chinese curriculum, effective culturally responsive pedagogies and related materials during two school years from 9/2020 to 8/2022.

The extension of Empowerment and Transition – Supporting Teachers to Promote Multicultural Students’ Chinese Learning in Primary and Secondary Schools (賦權授能.銜接向上 ─ 支援中小學教師提升多元文化學生中文學習能力) project runs from September 2022 to August 2023 funded by Quality Education Fund Thematic Network.
