Due to the success of the Growth-2 project (2019-22), the Project Investigator was invited by QEF to implement QEF Thematic Network to further promote professional sharing and good practices to the wider community in the upcoming year.
The Growth-2 project initiated a thorough and comprehensive study to untangle the barriers that P.1 multicultural students face during transition. Through the Teacher Learning Community and Professional Development programme, kindergarten and primary school teachers were equipped with and encouraged to enhance their teaching of literacy ability, integrate reading and writing, and make use of picture books. In particular, through picture book reading, students were encouraged to know better their primary schools, build self-reliant abilities as well as discuss their transition problems so as to form the solutions to understand and handle their worries and difficulties. Efforts were made to enhance the Chinese ability of P.1 multicultural students to promote smooth transition.
The Project period runs from September 2022 to August 2023 funded by Quality Education Fund Thematic Network*. Dr. WM Cheung, member of the CACLER, applied and mentioned the Centre as the major part of the research infrastructure. The co-investigators are Prof. Hector W. H. Tsang, Dr. Zhang Xiao and Dr. Lam Ho Cheong.
