Han-characters shared in a variety of forms among a number of Asian languages constitute a unique linguistic phenomenon. Hanja is taught in Korea, kanji in Japan, Chinese in Mainland China and Singapore learn simplified hanzi while Chinese in Taiwan and Hong Kong learn their traditional Chinese characters. This Conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from different Asian countries to foster international knowledge exchange and research collaboration on Han-characters education and research. Building upon accomplishments and successes of the fourteen conferences, the upcoming conference will be held in the Taiwan Normal University in early of February 2026.

The 15th International Conference on Han Characters Education and Research

The conference will explore how large-scale assessment results like PISA can effectively inform curriculum development and learning and teaching strategies. We will focus on our students' performance in PISA 2022, while also revealing areas for continued improvement.
